Let our Mackay team help!
There is little else as frustrating as losing your phone (except perhaps your keys).
In a world where we come to rely on our technological companions more and more each day, the very idea of dealing with a lost phone makes us shudder with horror. A modern smartphone holds vital details about us, not to mention the priceless reminders and memories that photos, calendar dates, and texts can mean to us.
So have you lost your phone recently? Whether it was simply misplaced, or worse yet stolen, we know how problematic that can be. Firstly, it’s more about prevention than cure. Here are a few ways to prevent theft in smartphone devices.
The four basic security commands every smartphone owner should know and follow religiously are:
Find out how ‘Find my iPhone’ works and USE IT.
This device-finding inbuilt application can find your phone while it is charged and is not in airplane mode. It gives you a location of where the phone is at the time you’re checking for it, so it is to a degree, trackable.
Use your activation lock.
Could anyone use your iPhone if they picked it up right now? Set up your activation pin immediately. This is a security measure available on most smartphones and all iPhones, which requires your personal apple ID lock and password to be entered if anyone wants to access your phone. It’s futile for a thief to steal any phone with this application, so really, it’s a great overall deterrent.
Personalise your smartphone.
There’s a whole world of great protective cases out there from the transparent business variety to mad novelty types. These are all great for protecting your phone against damage but lets talk about better ways to make your phone stand out; by personalising it.
The exterior of many smartphones can be engraved, or at least marked in some way that makes them unique. Once you’ve made your phone look unique, take a photo of it and store it somewhere safe in case your phone ever goes missing.
Back it up.
You know it and you’ve heard it time and time again, yet people still walk around with sometimes months of precious photos, contacts and texts on their phones without ever backing them up. Luckily applications like cloud make it possible to back your phone up without needing a computer to do it, but you must be vigilant if you want to save your belongings.
Keep these basic security commands in mind next time you’re looking at your smartphone, put them in place and know you’re doing your best to prevent theft.
