“The Acer W510 scores 7.5 stars out of a possible 10 based on both performance and looks. All in all, a stylish and professional tablet with plenty on offer for Acer fans.”
Those looking for portability in a compact unit will find a world of opportunity in this weeks’ review, as we look at the Acer Iconia W 510 tablet.
One of the first reactions to this unit is to question it’s capability based on size, but don’t be fooled; this is a compact tablet for Windows 8 that certainly doesn’t lack in tricks.
With specs that bring Iconia W510 in weighing only 1.27 pounds and a screen width of 10.18 X 6.6, the regular features are all consistent with previous Acer specs, starting with the power button up above the Gorilla Glass protected 10.1” CristalBrite LED TFT LCD rotating screen. The bottom of the tablet is home to both the docking ports and the charging port, and along the right edge of the tablet, micro –SD, micro HDMI, volume and the micro USB points can be found.
An added feature to consider in addition to the unit is the portable keyboard dock. With this feature in place, the w510 can be altered to become a mini-laptop. When connected, this feature also extends the battery life 15+hours and the unit can be used for viewing at up to 90 degrees or alternatively the keyboard can be laid face down.
This Acer is run on an Intel Atom 1.8GHz processor, and is kitted up with 2GB of RAM. Purchasers have the option to choose between 34GB or 64 GB models, and there is also the added bonus of the micro SD card slot to consider should you require more space. Volume on the W510 is most acceptable, but it has been experienced that in holding the tablet, the speakers are blunted and muffling occurs. Those who depend on raw sound will appreciate the heads up.
The W510 has a very responsive screen and the overall style is extremely slick with a professional edge. The W 510 holds exceptional battery life, and all the expected mod cons with a front facing 2MP camera and a rear-set 8MP camera, Wi- FI and Bluetooth 4.0.
With the unit available from just $899 and the attachable keyboard dock at $99, this is a versatile and comprehensive device. Especially with the combination of the docking keyboard, the duo packs a punch. As a savvy little unit, hitting the spot for the needs of regular tablet users who want Windows 8 in a compact unit for a tidy price, we expect to hear many happy reviews of this great little tablet, the Acer W 510.
